On Thursday November 19, 2009 Fred Saul, Maine Vice President of Operations and Terry Kochakian, Northern Maine District Manager delivered lunch to the 250 workers assembling wreaths for the Wreaths Across America Project in Harrington, ME. The dedicated Pizza Hut crew in Ellsworth, ME led by manager Penny Mott prepared 60 pizzas and 15 orders of large cheese breadsticks for the hungry workers.
Wreaths Across America is a non-profit corporation that provides wreaths to be placed on veterans graves across the United States and overseas. In 2008 over 100,000 wreaths were placed in more than 300 locations with the help of 60,000 volunteers. 18 wheeler trucks criss-cross the continental United States delivering wreaths to 402 locations. Around 50 trucks are used with three trucks delivering to Arlington National Cemetery alone.
This year in addition to their normal wreath laying, Wreaths Across America has joined with Wal-Mart to place one wreath for each victim of the September 11th attacks in Battery Park in New York City.
Capital Pizza Huts of Maine provided the hard working employees with a feast of pizza and breadsticks that was enjoyed by all. Company owner Morill Worcester expressed his gratitude for the donation, commenting that Capital Pizza Huts was the first company to do something for his crew.
